Hooking A Laptop To TV Which S-video Cord, But No S-video Slot On TV.?

I want to hook my laptop to my big tv in the living room so I can watch movies off of it, or play games on my tv. I bought an S-video cord thinking my tv would have a slot but it doesn't. Does anyone know of a way to hook the laptop up with it's s-video slot, to the av cord part of my tv? I didn't know if there was such an attachment to turn one end of an s-video cord to av cords. If you know of a way, could you tell me what the names of the cords I need are? Also, I do have a dvd player that connects to my tv through av cords, and it has an s-video slot in the back, but it says s-video out. If there isn't a way to connect the tv and laptop, is there a way to connect the laptop to the dvd player, then that to the tv? Help Please!!!
